What brought you here to Sanctuary Aus?

I came to Sanctuary looking for a behavior support company that was more connected to the community and focused on helping clients in a more holistic manner. Added to this Sanctuary also provide support to their staff and a good working environment. So, it was an easy to choice to come onboard.

I find I share similar values to those that Sanctuary display in their approach to helping clients and with a focus on wholistic interventions and a strong emphasis on helping those in need, As a NFP they strive to leave a positive impact on the community they work and also live in and the staff are all highly motivated in providing assistance to our clients sometimes doing the extra bit to ensure they are supported and advocated for.

What keeps you here at SA?

I most enjoy the fact that my work aims to help people in the community I live in, and that it is very also very rewarding when you see some of the successes of our clients. As often they are the result of a lot of hard work and by both the therapist and the client.

What do you like about your role?

My experience is specifically with complex clients who had severe multi-faceted behaviour, including but not limited to; schizophrenia, drug induced psychosis, ADHD, ASD, ID, ODD, Drug addiction, ABI, SIB, Intermittent explosive disorder, and personality disorders. I have experience in working directly with this population including direct implementation of interventions across the home, school and community setting with a focus on managing and reducing aggression and sexualised behaviours.

Your previous work experience

I’ve come to the industry after a career change, where I originally worked for large private companies in an unrelated field after a lengthy time at university.

However, after being approached by a pervious company to transition into this industry I’ve had a lot of on-the-job training and experience and also have completed a ‘So Safe Training’ certificate as well as an RBT course.

Outside of study I’ve spent a lot of time involved in community combat sports, both coaching, assisting, volunteering, and competing which has given me strong ties in the community and an of the benefit and importance of community engagement and involvement in people’s lives.

It’s also given me experience in helping youths and adults develop themselves personally and develop skills that that can be carried over to multiple aspects of life such as discipline, respect, self-confidence, self-belief and accountability.
