Behaviour Support Program

Sanctuary Aus specialises in providing Behaviour Support services for children and young people with disabilities who use challenging behaviours.

Sanctuary Aus strives to view the child, young person, parent and entire family in a holistic manner. We view behaviours as communication that signify needs. We focus on assessing a person’s development, strengths, relationships, needs and challenges to fully understand their behaviours and how to address them: rather than simply applying a one-size-fits-all plan.

Sanctuary Aus use evidence-based theories to deliver:

  • Interim Behaviour Support Planning, when there is an immediate need for behaviour support to minimise the risk to a person or others, due to their current behaviours.

  • Comprehensive Behaviour Support Planning, using holistic assessments and therepeutic tools to develop theories on why the person is using particular behaviours, with detailed analysis and recommendations for addressing these.

  • Positive Behaviour Support services, to deliver Behaviour Support services to the child, family and school to address challenging behaviours.

Sanctuary Aus:

  • Provides children and young people with therapeutic education about their emotions to increase their capacity to regulate their responses and behaviours;

  • Supports children and young people to develop more appropriate social skills;

  • Provides young children with therapeutic interventions to increase their holistic development;

  • offers therapeutic counseling and services to children, parents and families;

  • offers education to parents and families on specific disabilities and how they impact on a child’s development and behaviours, specialising in ASD, ADHD, Intellectual Disability and other conditions that impact on a person’s social and emotional development;

  • works from a trauma-based perspective, with an educated understanding of how complex trauma impacts on development, emotions, relationships and behaviours.

We work in a range of settings, including the family home, the school or other places in the community where the family is comfortable.
